Salt Water Enemas Can Be Dangerous

Consider this before performing a salt water enema.

Like every other type of alternative medicine treatment, salt water enemas should be performed with caution and only after significant research has been done to see if it’s the right choice for you. Enemas in general should be performed only by professionals, or if you do it yourself should be performed exactly as the directions say.

With salt enemas, occasionally too much salt can be put into your body and instead of flushing out the colon, could actually be absorbed into the bloodstream. If this happens, several problems can occur. One, you could become dehydrated. Two, you could experience a toxic shock of sorts. This is where the problems can become very serious.

In general, we recommend staying away from salt water when performing an enema procedure. The reason we do this is because the salt water does not provide enough of a benefit over using regular water to offset the extra risk.

Many people also use coffee or tea to do an enema with. These liquids come with their own set of potential problems and should also be avoided unless performed by a practioner that has a lot of experience doing them. Again, we believe that the benefits of a colon cleanse enema with regular water is just as effective and comes with much less risk.
